Police and AR seized huge consignment of ephedrine

IMPHAL, September 23: A joint team of the Special Investigation Unit and the Imphal West Narcotics Cell assisted by the 43rd Assam Rifles, Motbung seized 12 cartons of Pseudoephedrine capsules and tablets from a cement loaded truck at Kanglatongbi bazar around 3pm this evening.

The truck bearing regd no AS 01 DD 6622 was driven by one Md Farrukh Khan son of Kalamuddin of Khabeishoi while the vehicle owner has been identified as one Md Tayab Ali son og Nawab Ali of Deulahland Kabo Leikai. Further according to the consignment contained CU KUF tablets, Spasmo Proxyvon capsules, Respifed tablets which have Pseudoephedrine in its composition.

According to the driver he was offered Rs 3000 per carton by the owner of the consignment, said the police.

He had also disclosed that the consignment was supposed to be delivered to one Bipin of Khurai, the police further added.

He was also informed that the said Bipin will contact him as soon as he reach Imphal, however he was unable to identify the person who had contacted him at Guwahati and much more about the said Bipin.

According to the police, the team had already found the narcotics from the truck this morning around 9:30am, however formal seizure of the truck alongwith the banned substance was seized later in the evening.

Following reliable information about the movement of a huge consignment of illegal drugs along the National Highway, the team has been laying in wait since early morning.

The truck which was coming towards Imphal from Guwahati was made to stop for checking at the spot, the police said.

It is also learnt that on checking, the team found the huge consignment buried under the cement bags.

The cement loaded in the truck was supposed to be delivered to a shop at Churachandpur called the Southern Iron Link.
