State cabinet revamps DRDA

IMPHAL, Sept 12: A state Cabinet meeting today decided to entrust the duties of the Executive Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) to the respective DCs of the different districts while the ADCs were reassigned as Project Officers of DRDA.

It may be mentioned here that DRDA is the main implementing agency of the NREGS.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to file an affidavit pertaining to the recommendations of the Wadhwa Commission with regard to improvement in the Public Distribution System (PDS) as directed by the Supreme Court.

The recommendations include among others free and fair distribution system, free from political interference, transparent transport policy through open tenders and introduction of biometric BPL cards.

Altogether four ministers could not attend the cabinet meeting today as they were out of station. The absent ministers were Education & CAFPD Minister M Okendra, RD Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Works Minister Kh Ratankumar and Agriculture Minister Md Nasir.
