Student assault condemned

IMPHAL, Sept 18: ANSAM, NPO, SDWA and Taphou Naga village have condemned an alleged assault on a student leader at Imphal, and threatened to launch a joint agitation.

The civil bodies have condemned the alleged assault of T Robert Maram on September 13 at Imphal.

Joining the condemnation against the assault of T.Robert Maram at Imphal on 13th September, The NPO had stated that, “attack on tribal leaders speaks volume of the treatment towards the tribals of the state and that, the state government should react positively by booking those responsible and punishing them befittingly. By doing so, it will curb the communal feelings of the state and promote safety of every innocent citizen of the state especially the tribals”.

The ANSAM statement has stated the incident has been seriously noted and that it terms the incident as a despicable action. While warning of joint agitation against such incidents, the ANSAM has questioned the misgovernace of the present state government and its law and order in Imphal city.

It has added that, in case of failure from the State government to bring out any positive action agasint those responsible, the ANSAM will be forced to instruct all its unit to launch democratic agitation.

The SDWA requested the concerned Minister and department to check such activities and punish those responsible policemen irrespective of tribe, caste and post.

The Taphou Naga village has also condemned the incident and has demanded for early booking of the culprits and delivering justice to the harmless and innocent victim.

Meanwhile, a consultative meeting of civil organizations and public leaders was held yesterday at SDSA Head office to discuss the assault and new development in the district.

The meeting decided to constitute a core committee against the assault of T Robert Maram at Imphal on September 13 evening.

The meeting has resolved to form a Core Committee against the alleged life attempt of T Robert Maram with YK Kaping as convenor and four other member.
