IMPHAL, September 8: S Nabil village chief, identified as Henkhothang Haokip was shot dead by unidentified gunmen late last night around 11:30pm at his residence.
The village is located between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.
The village chief has been identified as Henkhothang Haokip alias Yamthang, 55 son of (L) Nekhumang Haokip of Churachandpur district.
According to family members of the death chieftain, he shot on his abdomen and thighs when he went out of his house around 11:30pm yesterday.
The assailants seem to be lurking in the courtyard for sometime, waiting for Henkhothang Haokip to come out, the family members added.
They also informed media persons that Henkhothang was shot with a single barrel gun.
Soon after hearing loud gunshots outside, the family members rushed out.
The family members rushed him to the District hospital, CCpur however died at Moirang Lamkhai before reaching the hospital.
The death body has been handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at the RIMS mortuary today.
Meanwhile, family members expressed that they have no idea about the reasons behind the killing.
