IMPHAL, October 16: State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today led an inspection tour of the Dolaithabi Barrage project in Imphal East district.
The Chief Minister announced during his inspection that the project undertaken under the Prime Minister’s package will be completed before March 2014.
The Chief Minister was also accompanied by Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Ngamthang Haokip, IFCD Chief Engineer Th Indramani and other concerned officials.
Elaborating further on meeting the deadline for the project’s completion, the CM said after the end of the monsoon season work will be accelerated.
In order to accommodate the completion of the project by the announced dateline, more labour would be pressed into the project. Work would be undertaken day and night at the project after dividing the labour in phases, he said.
Commenting on the completed portion of the project, the State Chief Minister had also said that more than 50 percent of the project has been completed so far.
The Dolaithabi Barrage Project was first approved by the Planning Commission, Government of India in the year 1992 with an estimated cost of Rs 18.86 crore. The revised estimate of the project undertaken by the IFCD Manipur under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program is Rs 360.05 crore.
The construction of the project is undertaken by National Building Construction Corporation.
A DIPR release has said that after the completion of the project, a total of 7545 hectare of land along the canals of the project will benefit from it annually. It has also said that required land acquisition process for the main canal, left main canal and right main canal are already under process.
The project was included in the PM Package in 2008, it said.
