IMPHAL, October 3: The JAC formed againt the killing of Thiyam Romen in an alleged encounter met with the state Home Minister Gaikhangam today and submitted a memorandum demanding punishment for the involved cdos.
The JAC has further demanded in the memorandum that the government should support family members of Romen and that in case the government fails to produce the involved cdos within three days, the JAC along with other civil organizations will launched several agitations until its demands are fulfilled.
Meanwhile according to a member of the JAC, the Home Minister has assured the JAC that the govt will investigate and in case it turns out to be a fake encounter than all involved police personnel will be punished accordingly.
He further assured a sum of Rs 1 lakh as immediate relief for the aggrieved family.
Following the assurance of the Home Minister, the JAC and the family members accepted the dead body after post mortem was conducted at the RIMS morgue late this evening.
The post mortem was also attended by a Magistrate along with video coverage.
It may be mention that Thiyam Romen was killed in an alleged encounter between the suspected militant and the Imphal west CDO at Lamdeng Makha Leikai under Lamshang police station on Oct 2 morning.
Police had also claimed that they have recovered 9 mm pistol and three hand grenades from his possession.
Hunphun SL raising day held

UKHRUL, Oct.3: Over 5000 women turn up at the 24th raising day of the Hunphun Shanao Long, HSL celebration today at the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat Multi-Purpose Hall.
The crowd was so big that the huge hall could not accommodate all the women.
The colorful raising day celebration kicked started at from the morning right after the chief guest Drucilla Ragui hoisted the ceremony flag outside the hall.
The mammoth gathering, women in particular wearing traditional attires warmly welcomed the chief guest with a big applause.
The chief guest in her short speech deeply encouraged the HSL and urged the women`s organization to shape the future of the women`s in the area.
Edmund Chiphang, Chairman of the Hunphun Executive Council (HEC) and Aquila Zingkhai, Chairman of the All Tangs (Localities) Chairmen Association (ATCA) shared their views and ideas concerning “women`s role and responsibilities” in the Society.
Several special recreational items including the competition of the women`s traditional custom in wearing their clothes and activities in the first round called the Tankhul Women in Yesterday. The second or the final round was beamed on the theme the Tangkhul women today.
Out of the 27 localities, 14-15 localities took part in the competition.
The exhibition cum sale of various local products like vegetables, flowers of different varieties were also displayed at 20-25 stalls.
The Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner, R. Sudhan, IAS distributed the prizes to the winners in the competition.
HA. Wungrampan, headman, Hunphun Village attended as the guest of honour.
The HSL President, Grace Luikham gave the welcome and introductory addresses of the function.
