IMPHAL, October 14: The handyman of a rice laden truck kidnapped yesterday by a Kuki underground outfit at gun point from a place near Henbung under Kangpokpi Police Station was safely rescued and released today to reunite with his families and near and dear ones after a life threatening ordeal.

The rescued handyman has been identified at Sanni, 14, son of Besii of Tadubi in Mao. He was rescued by combined armed forces of Kangpokpi police personnel and a team of 43 Assam Rifles during a search operation conducted at Chingjang village at around 1:00 PM today, sources told IFP.

The underaged handyman, 14 year old Sanni came from Dimapur along with the truck laden with rice bearing the registration number AS-01DC – 9743.

Sanni is not the only under aged handyman working in these areas for a few sums of rupees. They are either forced by their parents to work or by choice they made to make some possible money often facing such life threatening situation when they should be going to school and studying like the rest of his friends and colleagues.

The state government is doing nothing, an observer stated, for these hapless kids and misuse and abuse them as human slaves in this 21 century. Driven by ignorance and the helplessness to eke out a living, these under aged boys continue to reel under various sarcastic barbs and rebukes of rich businessmen sitting in bungalows in connivance with the state authority in a mutual benefit schemes to gain easy money with lesser problems and complaints, sources said.
