IMPHAL  October 16: “Violence is rampant in the State, we have witnessed senseless extortion, abduction for ransom and the problem of drug peddling and abuse by the youths, this is a sorry state of affairs”, Rishang Keishing , Rajya Sabha MP stated.

The veteran politician was speaking as the Chief Guest at a function of unveiling of “Peace and Education Building” foundation stone at Bethel Prayer Mountain at Sadar Hills today.

Rishang Keishing said that both the hills and valley dwellers endorse communal harmony and unification. But even though people and leaders mouth these words and feelings, it is hardly translated into action.

In order to bring about a congenial atmosphere in the state, the different communities need to respect each other and spread the message of love. “By Love, I do not mean the romance among youngsters”, he mentioned candidly.

Quoting from the Bible, Keishing exhorted that Lord Jesus did not declare that tribal’s should wield AK-47s, kill their fellow human beings or to engage in drug smuggling from Myanmar.

He mentioned that the State is like a living museum inhabited by 33 different tribes and there should be sense of goodwill among the different communities to foster peace and development.

Minister in charge of IFCD, Ngamthang Haokip speaking at the occasion as the Guest of Honor mentioned that a long cherished dream had ultimately come true.

“ This will be an institution where the different communities inclusive of the Nagas, Kukis and Meiteis can converge under a single roof and work towards bringing about peace in the State”, he said.

Victor Keishing, MLA of Phungyar also attended the function.
