IMPHAL, October 7: The East Zone Inter University Men and Women Handball championship 2012-13 concluded today with the men’s team of the Manipur University lifting the men’s trophy.
The championship played at the SAI RC Takyel was organized by the Manipur University under the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
In the last league match of the championship in the men’s event, the Manipur Univeristy team defeated Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur Chhattisgarh by 27-14. The championship crown was handed to the Manipur University team according to the results of the league matches.
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith Varanasi, UP was adjudged the runners up. VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, UP was at the third position while Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur Chattisgarh was at the fourth position.
In the women’s section, the Manipur University women’s team had to be satisfied with the second position, with Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur Chhattisgarh taking the top position.
VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, UP rounded the first three spots in the women’s event. University of Calcutta, College Street Kolkatta, West Bengal was at the fourth position.
The four top universities will be going to the All India Inter Zonal Inter University Men and Women Handball Tournament 2012-13.
