30 AR ORGANISED THE GRANDIOSE CARNIVAL OF NINGOL CHAKKOUBA
1. As a part of the Military Civic Action programme, 30 Assam Rifles part of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organized a social cultural event “Ningol Chakkouba” on 19 Nov 12. In keeping with the Manipuri traditions and true to its credo of “Friends of Manipur”, IGAR (South) celebrated the Ningol Chakkouba festival, wherein womenfolk from various walks of life and communities of the State were invited. Maj Gen UK Gurung, YSM extended a traditional welcome to the Ningols drawn from the Meitei, Muslim and Tribal communities and the womenfolk offered fruits and other eatables (Athenpot) to the rank and file of the IGAR (S).
2. Maj Gen UK Gurung, YSM in his message, appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Manipuri womenfolk in all walks of life and added that it was an honour to host the Ningols, who are like sisters to them. He appealed to the women folk to continue their inimitable role of maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society. Emphasizing that the state is undergoing a transformation and in the current milieu, it is the women who can make a difference, he conveyed. On behalf of the participants, women speakers expressed gratitude towards the gesture of the Assam Rifles to strengthen the brother- sister bond and emphasized that the cordial relationship between the security forces and the general public will definitely achieve new height.
3. Manipuri traditions were strictly adhered to, with the women eating on plantain leaves and the Assam Rifles officers attired in Pheijoms serving them. This was a spell binding moment for the IGAR (South) and all officers and ladies who attended the function, which is indeed a quintessence of Manipuri tradition. Indeed, Assam Rifles has treaded an unconventional path which will be a milestone in strengthening the bond with the locals.
