IMPHAL, November 7: Even as two powerful bombs exploded in the state injuring several persons including security personnel, the Imphal East Police today recovered a huge cache of powerful explosives including RDX cakes from Loktak Maru Temple.

The police were led on to the recovery following an investigation into the October 26 grenade attack at a collection center of Babina Diagonistic centre near JNIMS crossing, said Imphal East SP Kamei Angam Romanus.

Speaking to media persons today at his office, the police officer said following the October 26 grenade attack at a collection center of the Babina Diagnostic, the Porompat Police station had registered a regular case for investigation.

“During the course of investigation, the police received reliable information that one of the suspects of the attack was hiding at Delhi.”

In a follow up action, Special Cell Delhi Police arrested one s/s finance secretary Ningthoujam Romen Singh alias Nongdrenkhomba alias RK alias Rocky, 30 son of N Ibotomba Singh of Kumbi Thingel Leikai, Bishnupur on November 1 at 6:00am from the Out Gate, ISBT, Sarai Kale Khan, he said.

The arrested militant was brought back to Imphal on November 4.

Following his disclosure, a combined team of Imphal East and Bishnupur police recovered seven Chinese hand grenades with detonators and four nos of RDX cakes from Loktak Maru Temple, Phubala, the police officer said.

The RDX cakes were hidden in talcum powder bottles which here cut into halves. Due to the smell of the talcum powder, even the security forces’ sniffer dogs were unable to sniff out the explosives, he continued.

During the course of interrogation it has been found that there has been several monetary demands from several KCP factions made to the RIMS road, Babina Diagnostic centre, however the collection center where the grenade attack occurred had nothing to do with it.

One of the injured in the blast, Deepu from Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai is presently undergoing treatment at Guwahati and his right eye had to be taken out.

Meanwhile, this morning around 9:30am, teams of Imphal East police arrested five active members of KCP (Pakhanglakpa) including a woman based on an input received from the 16 AR and corroborated with the CDO, Imphal East, the SP said.

He identified the five arrested individuals as Laishram Jadumani Meiei alias Romeo, 39 son of (L) Itoba Meitei of Khurai Ningthoubug Leikai, Laishram Dhanabir Singh, 36 son of (L) L Rabei Singh of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, Oinam Jiban Singh alias Bhumeshwor, 38 son of (L) O Chaoyaima Singh of Wangkhei Khunou, Khuraijam Ibungobi Meitei alias Pakpa, 30 son of Kh Dhanabir Singh of Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai and Shijagurumayum (n) Hanjabam (o) Bheigyabati Devi from different places and recovered 25 demand letters of the KCP (Pakhanglakpa) and five mobile phones from their possessions.

The police officer also clarified that the Imphal East police commandos were not involved in the killing of Hijam Babu as reportedly claimed by the RPF.
