IMPHAL, Nov 2: A VDF identified as Oinam Surjit Singh, son of (Late) O Mangolo Singh of Phubala Maning Leikai, PS. Moirang Bishnuppur district posted at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and functioning as Mess Commander of the VDF stationed there has been arrested today at 12:35 pm while trying to smuggle banned items of packets tobacco (Khaini in his jungle boots inside the jail.
He was arrested while conducting frisking of all duty personal at the entrance of the Jail gate by Prison Officials.
The arrested personnel was handed over to OC Heingang PS for police custody in the evening today by prison officials in the presence of SP Jails IK Muivah.
Stringent measures of checking has been put in place to prevent all such activities in the jail, authorities confirmed.
