IMPHAL, December 14: A 28-year-old transvestite (nupi sabi) was found hanging this morning at around 6am at the veranda of a grocery shop opposite to the Veterinary office in Athokpam bazaar under Thoubal Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Thongam Romeo, 28, son of Th Herachandra, a resident of Thoubal Athokpam Awang Leikai.

The deceased who runs a beauty parlour at Athokpam Bazaar was found hanging by a stole tied to a bar on the veranda with his feet nearly touching the ground and biting his tongue.

Meanwhile, his family along with local people blocked NH-39 at Athokpam from 2 pm claiming that he was killed and that it is not a case of suicide.

The blockade was lifted at around 4 pm after a police team led by Thoubal SP Ak Jhaljit arrived at the scene and calmed the protesters saying that the police will take up action if anyone can come up with a solid evidence that he was murdered.

A case has been registered with the Thoubal Police Station regarding the death.

The dead body was brought to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal and conducted post mortem there.

During post mortem Romeo was found wearing ladies inner garments.

However, his family has refused to claim the body suspecting foul play over the death.
