JCC resolves to launch indefinite hunger strike

IMPHAL, December 18: The Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) of the Engineering Departments in Manipur, comprising of four major departments of the state government- PWD, PHED, IFCD and MID organized a joint press meet cum resource persons interaction today at the conference hall of PWD Manipur.

The said press meet cum interaction was held with special reference to the decision of the State Cabinet held on December 3, 2012 in connection with their demands for clearing ROP and payment for 18 months. The JCC has resolved to stage an indefinite hunger strike from January 7, 2013 if the government do not provide a positive response.

It may be noted here that JCC has been staging sit-in-protest since November 6, 2012 and cease work strike from November 26, 2012 against the non payment of ROP 2010 to work charged staffs and non payment of pay for 18 months in PWD and IFCD. The JCC has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister as well as Chief Secretary regarding the matter on September 14, 2012 but till today they have not received any positive response from the state government.

During the meeting, Secretary of PHED, Ksh Dijamani Singh said the ongoing strike is under the Industrial Dispute act 1947 and it is absolutely legal. He further urged the work charged employees to support in launching more intense agitations.

General Secretary of JCC, B Gunamani Sharma also urged the employees to support the move saying that there is no other means except staging the hunger strike.
