Mangi reacts hard against Kakching MLA statement

IMPHAL, December 2: Reacting to a comment from Kakching MLA Y Surchandra to uproot and abolish the Communist Party of India from Kumbi, former Minister from CPI, M Mangi termed the statement which was carried out in certain local dailies today as immature.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference at Irawat Bhawan today, former Minister said the MLA who made the comment during a Rabi crop distribution function at Saiton Bazar, should not have chosen the function to make a political statement as the function was organized by a government department.

Mangi was expressed that if the CPI candidate had been elected from the Kumbi constituency, the people of the constituency would not have to face hardships as much as now.

Elaborating further, CPI leader who was also a Minister in the SPF I government, said during the CPI’s time, several development works had been undertaken in the area. The Kumbi Primary Health Centre was upgraded and many concrete bridges constructed while most of the areas was electrified during the CPI’s time, he continued.

However, soon after S Bira was elected as the MLA of the constituency there was a drought like situation in the area.

He continued that the River Lift Irrigation (RLI) which was constructed in the area by the CPI has not been maintained by the Congress.

He was also quick to criticise that the Congress is yet to bring up any issues of the state in the state Assembly in the last five years.

Commenting further on the Kakching MLA’s statement, he said criticising and downplaying the CPI (Manipur State Council) and calling the people to join Congress by withdrawing support from the CPI is not a brilliant political action.

The CPI member also expressed that the party will continue to put in endless effort on the ILP issue and expressed his hope that the NSCN (IM)-Centre talk will not affect the territorial integrity of the state.

He further urged the Congress not use a state organized campaign as a platform to launched its dirty politics.

CPI is not a party based on MLAs or votes but it is the party for the labourers and as long as labourers exist CPI will exist, he said.
