IMPHAL, Dec 3: Manipur People’s Party president, Sanasam Umananda has resigned from the party president citing his old age to give way to the vice president Laishram Jatra for the party’s top post.

His resignation was announced this afternoon during a press conference at the party office.

Speaking to media persons, Umananda said he is not young anymore and finding it hard to take full responsibility by himself.

Vice president L Jatra has been appointed the new president of the party considering his seniority in the party line-up and concern for the party.

Sanasam Umananda was appointed the party president on June 4, 2012 for three months and later extended by another three months.

Newly appointed president, L Jatra said the order for his appointment to the party top post was issued on December 1, however due to several reasons, the party failed to announce it.

Addressing the press conference as the MPP president, L Jatra said, the party is a regional party and aims to solve the conflict between the various communities of the state.

Seeking cooperation from the general public, the new president said he will try his level best to meet the issues of the state.

He further appealed to all the communities of the state to live in unity and in peace.
