IMPHAL, December 8: A mass public rally was organized today protesting crime against women and children in Manipur under the aegis of the Women Action for Development, a voluntary women organization in Imphal.
The rally which was organized as part of the International fortnight observation of violence against women, commenced from Mongsangei club ground in Imphal West district and passed through Heirangoithong, Haobam Marak, Kha Imphal school, Pishum Oinam leikai and converged at the Pishum Ningom Leirak community hall for a public meeting.
Several women victims besides their friends and near and dear ones participated in the said rally.
Women activists led by WAD`s secretary Sobita Mangsatabam also attended the meeting.
Sobita said, besides the systematic violence of women rights committed by the state and non-state actors are daily routine in Manipur, the state has been witnessing increase in gender based violence such as rape, molestation, torture, using women as human shield during army operation etc.
