RTI applicant seeks information on management of JNIMS

IMPHAL, December 14: Following the failure of the authorities to reply to an RTI application seeking information on whether the management and the administration of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, JNIMS is under the Government of Manipur or under the management of a Society, an RTI applicant has submitted an appeal under section 19 (1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005 requesting provision of the sought information.

The first RTI applicant was appealed on November 2 seeking details of information on the position of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, (JNIMS) as to whether the management and the administration of the institute is under the Government of Manipur or under any Management society.

The RTI application also sought relevant documents/records regarding the information sought and information on the list of the professors of JNIMS who are qualified and competent for the post of Director, JNIMS and the recruitment rules of the Director and of the Psychiatric Social Workers in JNIMS.

The RTI application has also sought information on whether the JN Hospital is truly amalgamated with the JNIMS and what the writings on the signboard as “Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital” within bracket “JNIMS” means.

According to the Medical Council of India and based on the “due to shortage of manpower, the recognition of the medical college may be derecognised”, and as such the Director of JNIMS and the Superintendent of JN hospital, in the name of the president (Chief Minister) appointment of various staffs were made, the RTI applicant said and further appealing for copies of the appointment orders containing the names and particulars of the staffs dully appointed and with the copies of the advertisement published in the regard during the period from 2008 till date.
