Seminar on peace and development at Singhat

IMPHAL, December 3: The 39 Assam Rifles of Headquarter 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter IGAR (s) organised a one day seminar on Peace and Development on enhancing economy/economic development of Singhat through Human Resources Management.

The seminar was also attended by representatives from several state government departments including agriculture, horticulture, soil conservation, forest, environment, ecology wing, veterinary and animal husbandry, sericulture, fisheries and CSIR.

Brigadier VS Ranade Commander Headquarter 27 Sector Assam Rifles was the chief guest.

SDO Rachel Guite and Dean, College of Agriculture, Imphal Professor N Iboton Singh were also present.

Speaking at the seminar, Brigadier VS Ranade said Singhat is one of the most remote and difficult areas in the NE Region. Such Seminar will reawaken development in the Region. There is large potential of development in the NE Region which remains to be exploited. With proper planning and with Army, Assam Rifles and the civil administration on one platform it will help in efficient delivery system of development in the region.

This will help in giving attention to technical and vocational training in the Region, he said.

“Such Seminar will get the Security Forces and civil administrative on one platform for the economic development in the North-East Region and such Workshops will help in providing development in a manner that would strengthen National objective in terms of providing better infrastructure and Health care, better educational facilities, Rural roads, rural housing and generation of employment through many National Flagship programmes”, he said.

The deliberations by the top most academia and experts as well as the holders of traditional knowledge would help in promoting the efforts for efficient and sustainable utilization for the bio-resources of the region and will help in the economic development of the region, he said.

He continued, “Singhat is inhabited by all communities and has the potential to thrive on agriculture and farming”.

He reiterated that it is time to ‘say goodbye to gun culture and turn to agriculture’.

He continued Singhat is a fertile place and people tend to do plant ‘Poppy’ which is wrong and would not bring any good to the people.

The seminar aims to showcase the scientific advancement in the field of ‘right plantation’ and encourage the people towards selecting the right crops for plantation.

This will develop Singhat and the locals will become self-sufficient.
