Talks between NSCN (IM) and Centre underway for early solution

DIMAPUR, December 4 (Newmai News Network): “Formal-informal` talks between the government of India and the NSCN-IM are underway to settle the Indo-Naga political issue at the earliest.

Well placed sources informed Newmai News Network tonight that the “series of contacts” between the NSCN-IM leaders and the government of India representatives will go on till the middle of this month.

After this `last leg of meetings` with the government of India for this year, NSCN-IM chairman Isak Chsi Swu and the outfit`s general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah are likely to arrive in Dimapur for the Christmas and the New Year celebrations on December 18.

These two NSCN-IM leaders will be going to New Delhi in the early parts of next month to resume the talks, the sources added.

On November 6, the two NSCN-IM leaders had left Dimapur for New Delhi to have more rounds of talks with the government of India.

Thuingaleng Muivah had expressed optimism about the talks` outcome while talking to Newmai News Network befor departing Dimapur Airport for the national capital last month.

Meanwhile, the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) is all set to have the last meeting on December 10 in Dimapur, according to a report.

The JLF has been floated by the sixty MLAs of Nagaland legislative assembly to press for the expedition of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.

“The Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) has resolved to pave way by resigning from their present positions, in the event of an honourable and acceptable solution but that does not mean that we should resign before the solution comes. Such a scenerio will create a crisis and has the possibility of bringing about imposition of President`s rule. Nagas have greatly suffered whenever President`s rule was imposed.”

This was stated by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio in the 7th General Conference (Convention) of the Naga People`s Front held in Dimapur Stadium on November 29.
