UCM states stance on Momoko issue

IMPHAL, December 22: The heinous act of SS NSCN-IM cadre namely Livingstone is condemnable ,said UCM President Y Nabachandra  in a press meet at UCM office, Lamphel at 2 pm today. He elaborated that UCM supports the ongoing protest and indefinite general strike called by the Film Forum Manipur. President of UCM said that the agitation of FFM, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and other Civil Society Organisation, CSOs against the physical assault to Miss Momoco and firing against other artists by the NSCN-IM is taken seriously. He further stated that until the demands of the forum are met, this protest will carry on. He continued that UCM units, its members and well wishers of the organisation should support the protest.

In the meantime, Y Nabachandra further appealed  that the strike supporters to relax regarding involverment in ritual and  ceremonies, Christmas movements, essential services and press reporters. He also said that strike supporters must not reflect communal, anti people and anti religion in the process.

He elaborated that the reaction of state security forces in controlling the situation is lamented. UCM blames GOI and GOM for the heinous crime perpetrated in public by a NSCN-IM cadre. He added that there is a fear of another June 18 of 2001 might erupt if the Govt. fails to answer the public demand for booking the culprit. He also said that if any unwanted scene arises from the current protest, the state Govt. and Central Govt. must take the responsibility.

President of UCM said that the incident is condemnable and the culprit needs to be brought to justice at the soonest.
