UNC lists its demands

IMPHAL, December 31: According to a press release from the United Naga Council (UNC) a public meeting to condemn the killing of 2 villagers of Kongkan village under Kamjong Sub-division, Ukhrul District by the UNLF on 28th December, 2012 and other violent attacks on the Nagas was held at Tangkhul Long ground, Ukhrul District HQs today at 1.00 PM under the joint aegis of the Tangkhul Naga Long and the United Naga Council.  Besides other organisations, the meeting was attended by the Zeliangrong Baudi(Manipur), The Naga Peoples’ Front(Manipur Unit), The Tangkhul Katamnao Long, The Taangkhul Sinao Long, The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long, Tangkhul Wungnao Long, Kamjong Elders’ Forum, Sambu Raiping Long, Raizan Long and villagers from Kongkan.

In the meeting a public declaration was adopted based on which, a memorandum was placed to the Government of India on the demands of the people on the issue. The demands included calling for UNLF cadres involved in the killing of late Mr K. Kumar and late Mr K. Ramshang of Kongkan village on the 28th December, 2012 and also the KCP(City Meitei) faction cadres led by its Col. Amit Meitei involved in assault of 13 students from Risophung village and the molestation and attempted rape of one of the girls on 24th December, 2012 at Napetpali Khongnang to be produced before the Naga people’s court for justice as per Naga customary law and that the Government of India should declare the cadres of the UNLF and KCP said to be involved in the Napetpali and Kongkan village incident as criminals. Other demands include calling upon the Government of India to institute an independent body to probe and investigate the two incidents; to immediately check, sweep and remove Improvised Explosive Devices(IED) planted in the tribal areas in Manipur by the valley based insurgent groups; to set up security posts manned by Central forces at Kongkan village and that the Government of India should extend all possible compensation/assistance admissible to the surviving families of those killed and also to the victims of assault and molestations.
