Manipur celebrates 64th Republic Day

IMPHAL, January 27: As in various parts of India, the 68th Republic Day, 2013  was also observed in Manipur.

The main state function was held at Kangla where the x 4th IRB Commandent, Lunseh Kipgen, IPS was the parade commander of the march past contigent while the Guard of Honour was the 5th IRB Assistant Commandant P Kirankumar, MPS.

The Governor unfurled the tri-color while a total of 81 contingents including those of security forces, schools, colleges, band platoons and other agencies participated in the Republic day parade.

Eight tableau representing various Government departments and agencies also took part in the parade that was marked by march past salute and cultural performances.

The function was attended by the Chief Minister and members of his cabinet, MLAs, top level officials and police and para military personnel. Prior to the parade, police medals in different categories were also awarded by the Governor. Later, the Chief Minister conveyed a vote of thanks at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade ground, Imphal.

Governor Gurbacharan Jagat distributed prizes to the position holders of march past, band platoon, cultural troups ( Hill and valley), tableau display, gate construction during the beating of the retreat programme at the Republic Day celebration and awarded police medals to the dutiful Manipur Police personnel.

Engineers of various departments, representatives of institutes, parade commander, 4th IRB CO, Lunsei Kipgen, IPS were awarded special prizes while red blankets were distributed to headmen and village chiefs from various villages in the hills and band display and cultural troupes gave performances.

Meanwhile, according to a DIPR release, the Republic day was also celebrated at the Bishnupur District Headquaters under the aegis of the District administration, Bishnupur with Deputy Commissioner , Heson A Simray as the chief guest.

Hoisting the National Flag, he he took the salute of 20 March past contingents of the civil police, district home guard, school students, NCC, Anganwadi workers and band parties.

A seperate DIPR press release also said that Senapati district also celebrated the 68th Republic Day, 2013 with the announcement of policies of the better administration under the aegis of  the District administration, Senapati at the Mini Stadium ground  located at the Senapati district head quarters with Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar Jha, IAS hoisting the national tri-colour and taking salute at march past participated by eighteen contingents.
