IMPHAL, January 30: An angry mob lynched a vehicle thief this early morning around 2:30am at Chaokok Kabui village under Lilong Police, while two of his accomplices managed to escape. The dead has been identified as Md Nasir Rahman alias Tachou, 40 son of (L) Abdul Karim of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
Sources informed that Nasir was earlier arrested on two counts of vehicle theft.
Md Nasir along with two of his accomplices was trying to lift a Yamaha R-15 motorcycle from the residence of one Lanthonglung Kabui of the Chaokok Kabui village, when they were detected by the locals.
While the two other managed to escaped, Nasir was nabbed by the locals and beaten up resulting in his death. A Honda Activa bearing regd no MN 01 R 4488 on which the three are suspected to have come on was also recovered from the spot.
The RC book of the Activa found registered in the name of one Md Majida of Lilong Nungei, however turned out to be fake. The dead body was today handed over to family members after post mortem was conducted at the JNIMS mortuary.
