Rape accused`s mother appeals for son`s `treatment`

IMPHAL, January 22: Likhram Sanahanbi, the mother of Likhram Roji who is an accused in the rape of a Chilly vendor has alleged that her son is in need of medical attention which is not forthcoming right now in the jail premises. Speaking at a press meet at the Manipur Press Club today, she said that her son was brought to JNMS on Dec 27 for his treatment but was picked up by the police without a medical discharge.

She further alleged that according to the doctor treating Roji, he has a condition called Spinal L4 or L5 disc lose and is being medicated by Diclonec and Cylopan. Saying that further inquiries to the jail authority by the family for not checking into her son`s health, the jail authorities said that they were facing financial problem, following which the family agreed to bear the costs. When Sanahanbi inquired to the concerned doctor in the jail, the doctor told her that he had already discharge Robi, she maintained. 

Sanahanbi claimed that her son legs are both in a state of paralysis and said that Rojit was kept in a separate jail.

” We have no issues with the legal steps being taken against him but we only want that he gets the appropriate treatment for his physical condition,” Sanahanbi said. Roji`s family member, including his mother did not provide any medical records of his `paralysis` or give any statement on how long he had been ailing from the condition.

Meanwhile SP Prisons IK Muivah, when contacted by IFP said that Roji, who is lodged in Manipur Jail Sajiwa is looked after by prison medical officers beside being administrated medicines as per the prescriptions of the JNIMS doctor who had diagnosed Roji. 

Saying that the accused is stable and receiving medical treatment under the care of prisons doctors Muivah continued that Roji`s family has been trying for bail on medical grounds.
