R-Day security drives

IMPHAL, January 18: As a part of the security measures taken up by the Imphal West Police for the upcoming Republic Day celebration in the state, the district police today conducted a cordon and search operation in the Thangal Bazar area today and detained 13 persons who were without proper verification proof at city police station.
Speaking to the media at the side line of the operation, Dy SP of Imphal West CDO Sarangthem Ibomcha said that the search and cordon was to ensure that no unwanted security issues happen in the run up to the Republic Day Functions. He further said that such cordon and search operations would be taken up in different area of the district to stop and prevent any untoward incident.
He further said that cordon and search operation was conducted at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai yesterday morning in which  69 person were picked up for verification and handed over to the Kwakeithel outpost. He further appealed to the people to carry proper identification proof whether it may be voter ID, driving license and other document.
Meanwhile, Imphal East commandos conducted a combing operation today early morning starting from 3:30 am till 7:30 am at Khurai Ayangpali road and surrounding areas.
During the process, five suspected persons were picked up for further questioning but they were released after it was confirmed that they were only civilians.
