Bandh on Imphal-Dimapur Highway

IMPHAL, February 4 (NNN): The National Highway 2, also called the Imphal-Dimapur road will be affected by a 48 hours bandh being called by the Sadar Hills Chiefs Association (SAHILCA)  from February 7 morning.

SAHILCA had put its demands for the cancellation of the order issued by the state government of Manipur in 2009 which gives 25% to ADCs and another 25% to Line departments in MGNREGS implementation. Another demand is to implement MGNRES project as per the Central Guideline & Rules. It had also demanded for the compensation of  job card holders for the delay in payment of its due wages.

In pursuance of the meeting held on January 29, a subsequent meeting of SAHILCA was held today at Motbung regarding the implementation of MGNREGS in Sadar Hills. The meeting deliberated on the February 3, date line given to the state government for cancellation of its order issued in 2009. The Sadar Hills chiefs strongly condemned the indifference attitude of the state government in this regard.

With the date-line of February 3 lapsed, the Sadar Hills chiefs` body unanimously resolved to impose 48 hours Sadar Hills total bandh w.e.f. 5.a.m. of February 7 to 5.a.m of February 9 as the first step of the agitations.

Media persons, essential services like electricity, water supply, religious ceremonies, medical and educational institutions will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, according to SAHILCA adding that the second step of agitation will be done according to the response of the government.
