Govt schools to be at a par with private schools, asserts minister Okendro

IMPHAL, February 11: In some two to three years, Government schools will be no less than private schools as the new teachers selected through TET are selected from the best of the best to bring better education in the state.

This was said by Education Minister M Okendro Singh while speaking at the opening ceremonies of the 2013-14 academic sessions of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Moirang which is a special residential school exclusively for girls and Residential School, Kumbi both under SSA Bishnupur. 

The functions were also attended by Parliamentary Secretary of YAS & Tourism, Mairembam Prithiviraj Singh as President; and MLA of Kumbi Assembly Constituency, S Bira Singh; Director of Education (S) and Project Director SSA/RMSA, H Deelip Singh; Dy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Jason A Shimray; ZEO/Dist Project Officer, BPR, L Guni Singh and District Programme Manager, Boghendro as guests of honour.             

Speaking at the function, the Education Minister said that KGBV Moirang is being set-up especially for those students who come from poor family backgrounds or happen to be orphans.

“Now that people are aware of the two acts Right to Education and Right to Information, lots of positive changes can be seen in the education sector. The state government is also trying its best to provide adequate teachers and proper facilities to all the government schools,” the Minister informed. 

The Minister further went on to say that upcoming government school buildings will have the same architectural designs and colour etc, in such way that it can be identified as a school easily with only a glance.

The designs for the government school building have been decided however, due to some inconveniences and work could not be started this year, he said. 

The Minister also gave his assurance that proper facilities will be provided to these two schools, KGBV, Moirang and Residential School, Kumbi setup under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and further informed that these kinds of school will be set up at other districts too.

The Minister also made a point to appeal to teachers who come to him for transfer at better places not to come to him bringing such requests which he cannot accept and further appeals for cooperation from the general public.

After inaugurating the opening ceremony functions, the minister also inspected the facilities as well as tested the meal provided at the school to the students.

Mairembam Prithviraj Singh speaking at the function said that the KGBV permanent school building will be constructed at Thamnapokpi in Moirang and it is aimed to complete by before the next session starts.

Out of the 100 seats, many had come for admission but as the seats are limited they had to return home disappointed.

He informed the gathering that the government is trying to increase the number of seats and that it is specially meant for students coming from BPL families.

H Deelip Singh said that five schools have been constructed so far under KGBV scheme, three at Chandel, one at Tamenglong and one at Moirang.

The construction works for the school buildings of these two schools will start soon as they are presently running on rented buildings.

This scheme is specially aim at making the government school equally good as private schools so that students from poor families who cannot afford to pay the fees of private schools also have the same good education system, he added.
