Main accused in U-Morok case fails in suicide attempt

IMPHAL, February 2: Two days after the Department of Forensic Medicine, RIMS submitted the medical examination evidence of the chilly vendor who was raped,  the main accused in the case is allegedly said to have tried to kill himself by stabbing himself in the stomach at the Sajiwa Central Jail where he is lodged at present.

Following the incident which happened late last night around 11pm, the Heingang police has registered a case of Attempt to suicide under IPC 309 against L Rojit.

The main accused in the U-Morok rape case Laikhuram Rojit, 25 of Porompat JNIMS road had stabbed himself using fibre glass used in a Moreh table Lamp in an obvious attempt to suicide, informed a source.

He was shifted to the JNIMS, where he underwent six stitches.

He was discharged today after being cleared of any danger and shifted back to he Sajiwa Central Jail.

Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that the Demonstrator of the Dept of Forensic Medicine, RIMS had on January 30 handed over the evidence of the medical examination of the woman who was raped  as also that of the four accused to the District and Session Judge Court Imphal West.

The court had instructed Dr Kh Pradip the Demonstrator to take in evidence on January 22.

However, the deadline had to be postponed till January 30 after one of the accused L Rojit claimed sick.

The evidence was collected between 1pm to 3pm of January 30 and during the handing over of the evidence, the alleged rape victim and the four accused were all present, informed the source.

The other three accused in the case are Chingkham Ibomcha, 37 of Thongju Boroi Makhong; Salam Bijen, 34 of Uripok Sorbon Thongel and Kshetrimayum Kenedy, 37 of Kongpal Chanam Leikai.
