LAMKA, February 13: The long overdue wait for the completion of the Khuga Dam canal may be over soon if thing proceed as informed by GS Haupu MLA, Singhat.

With media persons and officials from the concern dept. in attendance, GS Haupu today inspected the right and left canal of the Khuga Dam which was commissioned way back in 2011 by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi but which has failed to deliver a  single unit of power even  after it emerged that Rs 1.5 billion had been invested in the project.

Talking to the media on the sideline of the channel inspection, the MLA said that the right side canal which stretches for 20 km and expected to supply water to about 5000 to 10000 pari of cultivable land will likely be completed by the end of March 2013 while for the left side work, which stretches for 8 km had just started.

The 20 km long right canal had been classified in to 15 segments with each segment under one contractor  who, the MLA said, had completed 60 to 70 % of the work that will give sufficient water which will be a bonus for the people.

The  MLA who was entrusted with the task by CM and IFCD department to look after the canal said that  the CM will personally come  to inspect the progress of the work in the near future.

Speaking further, the MLA on being told that there are certain elements who stand in the way of swift construction, appealed to all different organizations and groups not to make any demands or call which will delay or derail the project and was even seen telling the contractor to give his contract number to those who made such demands .

He also told the officers that under no circumstances will a single amount be paid to anyone who made monetary demands.

The MLA, who prior to becoming MLA was a first class contractor of repute  complained of the quality of sand (balu) being used by the contractor which he said was sub standard and asserted that they would have to change the material.

He  went on to say that the quality of ballast in use must also be replaced before his next visit as the stone  dint` meet the criteria for a durable construction.

The MLA further directed on how to construct the embankment which had been time again being subject to sub-standard material and faulty constructions.

On being reminded that the people of CCPur in particular are having high hopes on the Dam but have been left disappointed so far, he said that power failure cannot be taken as a total failure. GS Haupu also added the public and civil society groups must cooperate so that the Khuga dam will at least be able to supply water for drinking and for cultivation of paddy fields.
