IMPHAL, February 4: The State Home Department has turned down the application of Md Faisal Khan, Co-ordinator of the National Alliance for People’s Movement (NAPM) New Delhi to meet Irom Chanu Sharmila.

The application was submitted to the department by volunteers of the Human Rights Alert and Just Peace Foundation for Md Faisal Khan on January 20. This is Faisal Khan’s fourth request since 2012 to meet Sharmila that has been turned down by the state Home Department.

Meanwhile, sources have informed that Md Faisal Khan who is also a co-ordinator of the Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign has already reached Imphal this evening since he was positive that the state would grant his request this time.

However, department officials refused permission saying that a non-Manipuri man and a woman came to the department and took the permission.

It is also learnt that Md Faisal Khan will be speaking during the week long National Campaign for Sharmila’s Support from March 8 to Irom Chanu Sharmila’s birthday on March 14.

The NAPM co-ordinator will be meeting journalists of the state tomorrow at 11am at the Sharmila Kanba Lup Shanglen.
