KOHIMA, Feb 16 (NEPS): In a major setback to the ruling NPF party, the police and Assam Rifles had seized Rs 1 crore allegedly from Nyemli Phom, NPF candidate of 49 Tamlu Assembly Constituency today at about 10 am at the Longlen Helipad.

According to sources, the money was reportedly brought in a chopper and landed at Longlen Helipad without permission. When the Assam Rifles authority at Longlen was alerted about the Chopper’s landing at their Helipad without permission, the personnel of the Assam Rifles swung into action. By the time, Nyemli Phom, NPF candidate of 49 Tamlu Assembly Constituency, reportedly came out with a bag of Rs 1 crore from the Helipad. When the security personnel checked him, they found Rs 1 core in his possession and he was later arrested.

There are five candidates including Nyemli Phom contesting in 49 Tamlu Assembly Constituency.

Meanwhile, NPCC has already lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take necessary action against the NPF candidate and the party (NPF) as well. In their complaint, the Congress has demanded the ECI to seize the chopper in which the money was brought in to handover to Nyemli Phom; to disqualify the NPF candidate from contesting the polls in the ensuing election; and to take appropriate action against the NPF political party.
