Mob burns down house, again

IMPHAL, March 4: In a follow up to the recovery of the dead body of a 18 year old pregnant woman identified as Yumlembam (n) Ngangbam (o) Latabi alias Abem of Khurkhul Makha Leikai under Sekmai Police Station in a suspicious manner on March 2, angered locals burnt down the house of a woman identified to be one Louriyam (o) Panbi Devi, the sister of Latabi’s husband Nganbam Premjit Singh.

The incident happened late evening around 8:30pm today.

It may be mentioned that on March 2, locals had also burnt down the house of the husband following the suspicious murder.

(L) Latabi’s husband Premjit, father in law Ibobi Singh and mother-in-law Tanou Devi are already in the Sekmai Police custody.

However today’s incident followed out of an assurance from Panbi Devi to produce her mother before the locals and her subsequent failure to do so.

Sources informed that after assuring the locals that she would produce her mother, Panbi went into hiding which angered the locals leading to the destruction.

On the other hand, even though Latabi’s dead body had already been collected after post mortem was conducted at the RIMS morgue, her last rites are yet to be performed.
