Narcotic affair border destroys illegal poppy cultivation worth Rs 1.44 crores

IMPHAL, March 7: Narcotic Affairs Border(NAB) alongwith the Senapati district police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation worth rupees 1.44 crores at different locations of Senapati district yesterday. 

Speaking to the media person at the office of the NAB, RK  Bikramjit office in charge of NAB said that on getting specific information of illegal poppy plantation in some general area under Senapati district, a joint team of NAB and Saikhul police personnel under the guidance and supervision of NAB Isak Shah, Superintendent of Police NAB Manipur led by RK Bikramjit OC (NAB)  destroyed the illegal poppy plantation.

The eradication and destruction was carried out by the officers and men of the NAB team in insurgency prone area with a total of 38 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in and around the Saihsijang Village (15 acres), illegal poppy cultivation at hill slopes of Molam Village (12 Acres) and another 11 acres at Tuisomjang village under the Saikhul Police Station, Senapati district. The illegal poppy plantation was done in the foothills, steep slopes of the hillock and nearby river banks but no one was found in the cultivation area or its surrounding periphery, he said.

The total area of the destruction of the illegal poppy plantation is about 38 acres approximately and the total illegal poppy plants destroyed would have given an estimated yield of around 380 kilograms which is worth 1.44 crores in the illicit drug market in India at the rate of Rs 40 thousand  per Kilogram.

Regarding the illegal poppy plantation, different FIR cases have been taken up against unknown persons for further investigation.
