National coaching camp for rowers

IMPHAL, March 9: Jyotin Waikhom, President of the All Manipur Canoeing and Kayaking Association (AMCKA) has announced that a National coaching camp will be organized at Takmu Water Sports Complex at Moirang. The first ever residential coaching camp in the North East for rowers from the age group of 12-14 will commence from May 2013 for a month.

A total of 300 seats are available for boys and girls of the State and another 100 for players from outside. The coaching will be overseen by a foreign coach. He further said that 50 meritorious players will be sent to Bhopal for an extended coaching free of expenses, if the parents are willing.

Jyotin observed that the recent canoe sprint championship was a major success and there is much scope of developing the sport further. He added that the association has been expanded further to other districts now and welcomes new members and enthusiasts to join in. “The association began with a humble 13 members,” he said.
