IMPHAL, March 5: The displaced villagers of Lamlai Khunou and Chadong village of Ukhrul district has cried foul against the State government for not giving their due compensation to the villagers even after the amount has been released from the Centre on December last.
A press release by the Chadong Village Rehabilitation and Resettlement beneficiaries stated that the construction of the Mapithel Dam Multi-Purpose Project will be banned with effect from March 7 onwards. The resolution for the protest was taken today at an emergency meeting held at Imphal today. There were 185 members representing Chadong village.
Stating that the Irrigation and Flood Control department has been playing delaying tactics and putting a divide and rule policy amongst villagers, the meeting condemned the screening committee instituted by the concerned Minister. The meeting resolution also urged upon the authorities to clear the compensation amount on or before March 7, failing which the villagers will approach higher authorities for taking up necessary actions.
