LAMKA, April 17: Churachandpur witnessed an unprecedented sight today with the state Chief Minister accompanied by his Deputy and almost the entire Council of Ministers, other MLAs, and ADC Members from other ADCs arriving at the district for the Memorial Stone Dedication service of (L) T Chhungi, wife of CCPur MLA and Minister T Phungzathang at his residence at New Lamka.
Speaking at the occasion, the state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh spoke fondly about his association with the Late Chhungi who he said was a God-fearing individual.
The CM further said that he was a witness of the humility of Late Chhungi and said that she was a model wife to her husband and had always backed her husband.
An emotional T Phungzathang , speaking on the occasion gave his thanks to all present and pointed out the Chief Minister`s persistent efforts in facilitating a seriously ill Chhungi to reach her home at Imphal before she breathed her last.
It may be mentioned that Late Chungii who was taken for a medical check-up at Andersion hospital at Texas, USA in 2011 had developed complications threatening her life and her condition demanded that she be brought back by an international air ambulance which was granted after the intervention of the CM who convinced the Home Ministry for the same.
She breathed her last at Implal on April 17, 2011.
One of the attendees of today’s function while recounting the life of Late Chhungi and her association with her said she was always involved in Church activities and added that her involvement for the upliftment of the downtrodden in her husband’s constituency of Thanlon in the late eighties and early nineties and the present Ccpur assembly constituency is well known.
Two books in memory of the late T Chhungi recalling her life were also released during the occasion.
