JAC calls general strike against mob killing of Md Sana

IMPHAL, April 13: The Joint Action Committee formed against the alleged killing of one Md Sana has called an indefinite state-wide bandh against the killing starting immediately.

Md Sana, 24, son of Md Jahur of Phoudel Maning Leirak under Yairipok police station was allegedly killed by a mob inside the kitchen of a woman at Yairipok Khoirom Kangjeibung Maya under Yairipok Police Station on Friday around 8:30pm.

Mahamuda Begum mother of Md Sana said that her family was on friendly terms with the family of the girl in question and lamented that her son was killed mercilessly.

Decrying the killing, the JAC had also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister expressing that the dead body will not be accepted until the government arrest the culprits and punish them according to the law.

It has further claimed that the crime may have been instigated by some individuals who may have been conspiring to kill Md Sana.

Further registering their protest against the killing, the public of Yairipok Fouden blocked the Thoubal-Yairipok road at various points from early this morning and disrupted the vehicular movement along the highway.

Meanwhile, Thoubal Superintendent of Police, Dr AK Jhaljit came to the scene and appealed to the protestors blocking the road to calm down and lift the blockade.

He later inspected the measures being taken up by the district police to control the situation.

Later, the public assembled at the Phouden Idigarh ground and a meeting was held.

The meeting while strongly condemning the killing of Md Sana had also passed passed various resolutions including the formation of a JAC and not to accept the dead body until the government brought the culprits involved in the murder to book, submitting to CM a copy of memorandum with a charter of demands in connection with the killing while urging the government to fulfill the demands and launching a state-wide general strike starting from today until the demands are fulfilled.

Speaking to the media persons after the meeting Md Jalal, secretary of the JAC said that Sana who died in the unfortunate incident is said to be a person who provided private tuition to children at his home.

He completed graduation in Engineering from Jadavpur University, West Bengal and was staying at the residence of his paternal aunt at Sora Mamang Leikai since two days back to attend a ceremony.

On Friday he visited Yairipok Khoirom Leikai along with the son of his aunt, Md Amir Khan, 25.

But the mob killed him by making false accusations against him. Md Jalal said, “Is it possible to accuse him alone if he committed immoral activities?”
