JRF of RIMS Pathology found brutally murdered

IMPHAL, April 5: In yet another incident of brutal crimes being committed against women in the state, a partly decomposed body of a young woman was found in a canal at Bashikhong Wangkhei Lowmanbi Loukon Khong under  Irilbung police station, Imphal East district today at around 2.00 pm by local passersby. 

Hearing the news, angry women of the deceased girl`s locality came out on the streets along the National Highway number 2 and disrupted the traffic flow till a large number of police personal were deployed to stop any untoward incident along the road.

Passers by found the dead body lying in a canal with the face covered with a (chuni) cloth with her red handbag and a Moreh carry bag next to her body, after which they informed the police.

Police checking at the crime scene led to the discovery of an ID card near the dead body which helped ascertain the identity of the deceased as Dr Ningombam Satyabhama Alias Penao (31), daughter of N Tomba of Kakwa Laishram Leikai Selungbam Leirak near Bo Lampak.  

She is said to be Junior Research fellow under a  DBT project on Pathology at the Regional institute of Medical Sciences.

A magisterial team came to the spot and inquired into the incident following which,  the dead body was taken away by the team of Irilbung police station and deposited at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science for post mortem.

According to the police, the dead body was found with the tongue outside her mouth which hints at the possibility of the woman being strangled. According to the family, Satyabhama left home on April 3 morning and failed to return but the family thought that she might have eloped and remained waiting for the customary practice of the boy`s family breaking the news.However, this did not happen after which, the family lodged a missing report with Singjamei Police Station

After the hearing of the brutal killing of N Satyabhama, locals local of Kakwa area gathered at the Bo Lampak community hall and then blocked the road from 4.30 pm onwards. In the melee, a Tata magic bearing registration number MN01W/ 3012 coming from Canchipur toward Imphal was damaged by the angry protestor at Kakwa Bazaar. Later, a large number of police led by the SDPO Singjamei came to the area and controlled the protestors.

A public meeting was held at the Bo Lampak community hall and a Joint Action Committee was formed. The JAC subsequently gave a call for an indefinite Manipur Bandh starting tomorrow from 6 am. Laishram Kiran, the convener of the JAC said that the indefinite bandh will be  enforced in the state until and unless all the person involved in the heinous crime are booked.
