Tangkhul bodies urge speedy justice

IMPHAL, April 5: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long have in a release strongly condemned the rape of a 13 year old girl student of Kendriya Vidyalaya School, Ukhrul allegedly by her teacher.

TKS, judging the “severity and sensitivity” of the case said it would be “sensible” on the part of the authorities to deny bail to the accused.

The release further said that TKS and TMNL strongly condemned the alleged kidnapping of a minor girl/student by PLA/RPF and urged to encourage young children in education rather than recruiting student/youth in unlawful activities.

“TKS and TMNL appealed to the government agencies to treat crimes against students/women with outmost seriousness. We observed that gender related crimes are on the rise and unless this is tackled with due professionalism by concerned authorities, in a multi-tribal society like ours, such crimes may necessarily lead to generalization and thereby harmony disturbed,” it said.

“We urge the government to ensure speedy justice to the victims for the ghastly and shameful act,” it added.
