Ukhrul bodies demand justice for crimes against women and children

IMPHAL, April 9: In a joint meeting, the People’s Forum, Ukhrul; Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long (ZTKL); Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Rights (UDACR); Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR); Action of Women in Development (AWID); Grace Ministry; Women Bread Winners’ Union and Participatory Action for Sustainable Development Organisation (PASDO) have outrightly condemned the kidnapping and detention of Alice Kamei; the brutal killing of Ningombam Satyabhama and the rape and attempted murder of a housewife in Ukhrul on April 4, informed a statement of the UDACR .

It said the spate of violence and crime taking place in the state almost every day gives the impression that the civil society is engulfed by vicious circle and the people are left helpless.

“It is very unfortunate that in spite of public outcry, violence and crime against girls/ women keep going on in the state without respite”, it continued.

The bodies strongly appeal to all right thinking people to condemn such acts and to work together to free ourselves from the rule of  a vicious circle and further urged the state government to take action for the safe release of Alice Kamei at the earliest, it said.

“We also demand the State Government to book the killer of N. Satyabhama and the culprit of rape and attempted murder of a housewife at Ukhrul and award befitting punishment”, it concluded.
