Cyber crime seminar

IMPHAL, May 3: A two days zonal seminar on the theme “Cyber crime and its solutions: Terrain based – NE Region” organized by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Imphal Centre (IETE) at the IETE Complex in Lamphel was inaugurated today.

During the inaugural function, Dr Surendra Pal, President IETE said losing data is like losing one’s property.

“One should be conscious about wireless security and its vulnerability. Our life is becoming simpler and at the same time complex. Losing one’s cell phone or computer is losing data,” he said while pointing out that remote sensing would work well in the NE region.

Speaking at the occasion, Gaikhangam, Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur said IETE is India’s leading institute in electronics and telecommunication. “The Government of India recognized it as scientific research organization.” he said. The IETE Imphal Sub Centre was established in 1993.

“Nowadays, there are many cyber crimes like crime through spam, fraud, cyber warfare, cyber terrorism etc. IETE has been preparing and working to effectively counter them,” he added.

Other dignitaries at the function were RK Gupta, Immediate Past President and Chairman Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Committee; Dr M Basavaraj, Vice President and Chairman M & CC; Brig (Dr) VD Abraham, SM Zonal Coordinator (East) IETE; and P Saikia, Chairman Guwahati Centre.
