NWU for amicable solution to Silent issue

IMPHAL, May 4: The Naga Women’s Union has in a press release strongly condemned the violent attack on the villagers of Silent Khul by the Seijang villagers on May 3.

The attackers ordering households  including women and children to come out of their houses, dismantling and torching houses, and apart from setting ablaze houses taking even the livestock is very inhuman and condemnable, it added.

The NWU has appealed to the state government for immediate relief to the affected villagers and to take suitable measures to prevent escalation of the situation and to ensure security to the villagers of Silent village. “We urge Seijang village not to repeat such an act in the future and further appeal to both the villages of Seijang and Silent to resolve the matter amicably through negotiation,” the release said.

The Publicity Wing of the United Naga Council has also condemned the attack on Silent Khul in a press release which also alleged that despite the nearest police station (Lamlai) being a few kilometres away from the place of incident, police arrived only at 1 pm even though they were informed around 11.00 am.

“We condemn these dastardly acts of violence upon the villagers of Silent Village that has been carried out on communal lines,” it said. 

The release has also appealed to all the general public, church bodies and the civil society organisations to generously contribute in cash or in kind towards relief for the villagers of Silent village.

The Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Delhi (TKLD) has in a press release condemned the assault on Silent  Village. “We deplore such wanton acts of violence which have inflicted immense sufferings to the people of Silent Village. We demand that the perpetrators of the unjustifiable act of burning granaries, destroying the resources of livelihood and for the outrageous act of rendering thousand homeless be book and brought to justice,” the press statement said. It added that to avoid further fallout between communities, the Centre and Government of Manipur should ensure safety of the traumatized citizens and address the immediate requirements of the victims.
