IMPHAL, May 23: Manipur Peoples’ Party advisor Okram Joy has denounced police action following the sit in protest agitation taken out by street vendors yesterday at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall.

Addressing media persons at the pary office, he said the increase in the number of street vendors in the state capital is due to the absence of industries and private undertaking in the state.

The police personnel, instead of taking action against the vehicles parked along the roads of the bazar area congesting the roads, are more interested in chasing away street vendors who cannot pay them bribes, he claimed.

He further added that the police nonetheless allow other street vendors who can pay them bribes and termed the state government as `anti-poor`. For the poverty striken vendors, the small place alongside the Imphal Bazar roads act as their centre of economic activities, he said.
