Pol parties converge against Congress

IMPHAL, May 31: Political parties in the state sans the ruling party Congress held a joint meeting today and discussed ways to defeat the Congress in the next Parliamentary elections to be held next year.

The meeting held at the Imphal Hotel at North AOC started at 2pm and continued till around 5:30pm was attended by almost all the political parties active in the state including the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF).

Other parties which attended are All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Janata Dal (Secular), Janata Dal ( United), All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiva Sena, Bahiyan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Comminist Party of India (Marxist) etc, said the source. 

The meeting minutely discussed on ways to contest the coming election and vote out Congress candidates from both the Inner and Outer seats, informed the source.

It is also learnt that the representatives discussed during the meeting on whether to project an Independent candidate and support him as a common candidate or to let only one party field its candidate and for all parties to endorse the candidate. However the meeting failed to come to any conclusion and adopt any specific resolutions, informed the source.

After all the attending political parties aired their respective opinions, it was agreed upon to hold another such meeting be held after June 18.

The meeting was presided over by Thounaojam Chaoba, president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur Mandal.
