IMPHAL, June 10: The Arambam Samarendra Trust and Social Standard Club organised the 13th Arambam Samarendra death anniversary at the Club premises at Salanthong Khurai Nandeibam Leikai today.
Speaking at the sidelines of the occasion, Dhiren, member of the Trust said the memorial ceremony is also observed today in Jiribam, Cachar, Hojai and other parts of Manipur with symposium, song and painting competitions as the main highlights of the day.
Anna R Malindog of Philippines, representatives of CSOs, Ima Lup and NGOs of the state took part in the memorial ceremony and laid floral tributes to the statue of Arambam Samarendra today.
Meanwhile, the day was also observed at Jiribam organised by the Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) at the office of Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup (JIMPAL). Floral tribute were paid to a photograph of Arambam Samarendra during the observation.
After the welcome address made by B Priyobrata Sharma and the key note address by W Dinesh Singh, general secretary JDO, resource persons namely Ch Kamal Singh spoke about the patriotic thoughts of Arambam Samarendra which is seen in his leelas, drama and songs; and S Gulapbabu Singh spoke about the views of Arambam Samarendra on the role of women in Manipuri society.
Dignitaries present at the occasion were W Second Singh, president UPF; Mutum Hemanta president JDO; Ch Maneswor Singh, BDO Jiribam; and H Mema Devi, president JIMPAL.
Meanwhile, the 13th death anniversary of late Arambam Samarendra was also observed at Iboyaima Sumang Lila Sanglen organised by the Manipur State Sumang Lila Council today.
Floral tributes were also paid to a photo of late Arambam Samarendra.
Taking advantage of the function, UCM president, Y Nabachandra appealed to the general public to dispose off mob culture from the society.
He said it is very unfortunate that the people have the tendency of forming mobs and attacking the house of any accused of a crime.
People should not forget that the same building also houses several other family members of the accused who are not involved in the crime and are innocent, he said.
Meanwhile, speaking on Arambam Samarendra, he said that Arambam Samarendra had always wanted to build a better society and also took part in every movement regarding welfare of the state.
He is one of the most prominent multifaceted person of the state, he continued.
The UCM president also touched on the issue of the ILP and said its implementation in the state is a must to safeguard the rights of the indigenous people of the state.
Otherwise the indigenous people will become minority in the state and it is unfortunate that the government has neglected the issue, he lamented.
Lamenting the government policy on the issue, he said legal experts have also suggested that the ILP can be implemented in the state if the state government take the initiative of pressurising the Centre.
The indigenous people will parish unless the government continue to ignore the issue, he said.
He also said that crime in the society has increased in an alarming rate on a daily basis.
Manipur State Shumang Lila Council advisor Dr Nara said the day would have been more fruitful if one of Arambam Samarendra was showcased.
Meanwhile, the day was also observed by Patriotic Writers Forum, Manipur held at the Manipur Press Club.
