CM warns reserved forest dwellers of eviction

IMPHAL, June 30: The state is beginning to feel the impacts of changes caused by global warming. Let all the people of the state try to protect against all such things, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh during a tree plantation program held inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) at Porompat of Imphal East District today in the morning.

He further said that the concerned officials should plant saplings not only at the spot where saplings were planted today but also in the vicinity of offices, inside the campus and along the streets including at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) complex, Lamphel on a large scale.

The Chief Minister further appealed to the people who construct houses and reside in the reserved forest areas of the Manipur government between Usoipokpi of Lilong and Tangjeng of Thoubal along the Imphal-Moreh road which is part of National highway No. 39 to leave the area before the government evict them.

He also appealed to residents of the reserved forest area of Langol to leave the areas that they have encroached upon.

Cabinet Ministers and MLAs and officials of the department also attended the tree plantation program led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
