CNPO & NCAC submits memorandum to Chief Minister

CHANDEL, June 10: Following a joint crucial meeting of the Chandel Naga People’s Organization (CNPO) and Naga Chiefs’ Association Chandel (NCAC) at MACA Hall Panchai on June 8, the two apex bodies today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh.

The two organizations in its memorandum submitted said that they endorses and state to reaffirm the decision of the United Naga Council (UNC) stating the liability of the ADC members as ‘null and void’ and will continue to register protest against the governor order earmarking 25 percent of MGNREGA funds for proposal and implementation of MGNREGA works by the Zila Parishads/ADCs. The ADCs members are banned by the public for implementing any kinds of development or welfare schemes particularly in the DRDA and Tribal Affairs and Hills and TD etc. It further states that no chiefs will grant permission of work to those villages operating bank accounts in connection with the MGNREGA transactions along with the ADCs members as signatories shall have to be revoked within ten days from the date of the meeting failing which the village shall be liable to explanation call.

The memorandum further pointed that funds in connection with development of hill district received from the GOI should go directly into the account of the DC or DRDA and the Govt move to transfer MGNREGA to MSSRDA should be stop at once.

The memorandum also demanded the resignation of the Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat Singh, Additional Chief secretary (RD & PR), Ameishing Luikham and Joint Secretary (RD & PR), Ningthoujam Geoffrey for issuing misleading order empowering ADCs whom the Naga people in Manipur consider them to be ‘bogus representatives. The memorandum further warned that if the Government fails to give positive response within ten days from the date of submission of memorandum, the organization will take any form of democratic agitation.

The memorandum which was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner Chandel, Th Chittaranjan Singh IAS was based on the resolutions adopted in the meeting attended by chiefs and Secretaries of about hundred villages in Chandel district.
