Delhi police on NE safety issue

IMPHAL, June 14: The Joint Commissioner of Police/Trg, Police Training College, Jharoda Kalan, New Delhi has issued a statement saying that In pursuance of the Ministry of Home Affairs office memorandum dated May 14, 2012 and in compliance of a Standing Order all the Addl.CsP/DCsP Incharge of the Districts of Delhi Police vide a D.O. letter dated 8.03.2013, have been requested to brief the officials under their command especially the cutting age officials – Police Stations, Beats, Traffic, PCR staff to seek the assistance of 37 representatives while dealing with the problems of NE citizens residing in Delhi”.

The statement has said that All the Districts Addl CsP/DCsP have responded very positively and had taken a lot of initiatives to reach out to the N.E. Students and Employees residing at Delhi.

The statement continued that the 37 representatives from eight NE States, North East Help Line, NGO and student Leaders have informed that there are visible confidence building measures taken by the districts police – regular meetings, prompt response in the hour of need especially the issues related to North East women/girls.

Police Stations/PCR staff are the first responder in the hour of crisis, the statement said.

Beat constables are the link on the ground. Due to normal transfer and postings many SHOs, Division Officers, I.Os. and Beat Constables have been changed from other units. / would request you once again to sensitize these new officials at the cutting level so that they are not found wanting while dealing with the N.E. folks, it said.

37 representatives who have been trained by the Delhi Police and have been issued identity cards after police verification from Delhi and their respective States are very enthusiastic student activists who are willing to render help to Delhi Police and distressed N.E. citizens at Delhi. They can also be a source of information, it said.
