IMPHAL, June 6: The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System and the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System for Students’ Union continued checking entry of non-locals into the state without valid documents with 42 non-locals entering the state through the land routes being made to turn back.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held at Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) office this evening, convener of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System for Students’ Union, Moiranthem Angamba Meitei said 42 non-locals were sent back today.
He said the committees will continue the movement until their demand of implementation of the ILP in the state is accomplished.
The committee is on the full-swing and ready to face any circumstances, he announced.
Expressing dissatisfaction on the state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s statement made yesterday against the movement, Moirangthem Angamba said the concept of the CM is wrong.
The committee have full knowledge that Manipur and India have “federalism relationship”, he said and added that the committee did not carry out any anti-national movement which will have an adverse impact on the Indian Constitution.
“It is just trying to save the indigenous people of the state which is the rights of the people provided by Article 19 (5) of the Indian Constitution.
He further said that the Committee is demanding only the re-imposition of the ILP which was withdrawn from the state on November 18, 1950.
Further clarifying the stand and demand of the committee, he said, that the committee is not stopping the non-locals from entering the state but they have to provide their specific identification from their state of origin and proposal for entering into the state.
The committees have not organized any awareness programs of chasing out the non-locals from the state, he said and added, however, the volunteers’ provide awareness of the importance of implementing ILP in the state, he continued.
Reacting to the statement of the Chief Minister that it is unfortunate if awareness programs on ILP are conducted in the school, he said before all such awareness program on ILP held in schools are conducted with permission from the school authorities including the Principals and the days are not announced as holidays.
He further appealed to the general public not to take up any violent agitation which will divert the movement from its core issue.
He continued that volunteers had today conducted awareness programs at various schools including Don Bosco High School, Langjing; Brighter Academy, Khumbong; Temple of Learning, Canchipur; Nirmalabas High School; Thinungei Phubala High School; Fancher Abhiram Hr Secondary School, Thoubal.
He further said student’s wing of the Committee is represented by AMSU, SUK, AMMSO, KSA, Apunba Ireipak Sinpang Lup student’s organisation.
Meanwhile, in separate press release the Sharmila Kanba Lup (SAKAL) has said that the state is feeling the heat of the ever expanding ocean of influx of foreign nationals and outsiders which will ultimately entrap the distinct identity of the state and erase the history of Manipur thereby resulting in the extinction of the indigenous people of Manipur and made a call demanding the immediate enforcement of ILP system in Manipur.
Union of Social Upliftment, Khurai Lamlong Keithel in a separate press release demanded for the implementing Inner Line Permit System in Manipur while saying that foreigners and outsiders have given threat to our economy, profession and even political affairs.
The balance of demography between the indigenous people and outsiders is alarmingly dangerous, the statement said.
